Who We Are

Montessori Learning Community of Asheville (MLC) has been a cornerstone of early childhood education in Asheville for over four decades. Founded 41 years ago, MLC is one of the first Montessori schools in the city, serving children ages 18 months to 6 years.

At MLC, children are encouraged to follow their natural curiosity, build independence, and discover the joy of learning. For generations, families have trusted MLC as a safe, nurturing, and inspiring place for their children to grow.

For 35 years, our home base in West Asheville has been more than just a school building — it has been the heartbeat of a thriving community. Countless children have walked through our doors, carrying the lessons of compassion, creativity, and confidence into their lives beyond MLC.

We are proud to have been part of Asheville’s story for so long, and we remain deeply committed to carrying our mission forward for decades to come.

Our Current Challenge

In 2025, our long-time landlord asked us to leave our home of 35 years, giving us just 11 months to find a new location.

This sudden change means that while we continue to serve children and families, we must also act quickly to secure a new space for our classrooms and community. We may have a temporary location before we are able to move into our next long-term home — but our mission and commitment remain unwavering.

For over 41 years, Montessori Learning Community of Asheville has nurtured children with a child-centered, hands-on education. For 35 of those years, our West Asheville campus has been the heart of our community—a place where children and families grow together.

Now, we are at a crossroads. Our longtime home has asked us to leave, and we have just 11 months to find a new space. Without your support, we risk losing more than a building—we risk losing the community we’ve built for decades.
